This set was entirely planned while “on tour”, spending a week travelling around Cádiz province in southern Spain.
There was such a variety of music that caught my ear this last fortnight, and the familiar creative struggle to fit it all together, the doubt that there was anything coherent here, loomed large this time around…
Days and days of heavy rain led up to this weekend, and I wanted to make a mix with lots of variety and a sunshine feel to it, not least to keep me moving and warm when spinning it live, outside!
As a cold south-westerly wind swept across Gibraltar, this week’s Balcony Beats braved the outside – but in a break from tradition, today’s picture was not taken on the balcony…
As the weather stayed wintery, this week’s Balcony Beats moved around to a slightly more sheltered part of the balcony. The music speaks of warmer climes and better times.
Back at home in Gibraltar, back under lockdown, back on the balcony… new year, same shit.
As we start 2021, we are being battered by storms and it is snowing on the mountains behind us – unbelievable for this part of the world.
This livestream happened right in the middle of the Christmas holidays. As a family, we’re back in our holiday home, at the top of a hill in southern Spain.
I started planning this mix with some pretty driving, uptempo house (for me, anyway) – the Gorgon City tracks and the percussive Tunnelvisions and FYI Chris tracks.
This livestream kind-of came together at the very last minute, because I hadn’t really found a chance to sit down and audit all the new music I’d heard over the past couple of weeks until the day.
