There was such a variety of music that caught my ear this last fortnight, and the familiar creative struggle to fit it all together, the doubt that there was anything coherent here, loomed large this time around. So I’m particularly proud of the result this week. It’s a warm, slightly psychedelic, emotional ride through a whole range of styles, and I enjoyed the challenge of fitting it all together.

Track listing

  1. Baril – One More Time – Trippy deep breakbeat to get the ball rolling
  2. Elder Island – Trailblazer – A weird but great sprawling track, of which I only play the first half
  3. Emilee – Rodeo (Maya Jane Coles Remix) – Expansive guitar-driven house, reminds me of road tripping through American western deserts
  4. Best Friends Club – Lofi Nights – Deep dubby house with a disco vibe
  5. Daniel Bortz – You Can Stay Forever – Emotional deep vocal track with a killer breakbeat
  6. Holy Moly – Georgians – Proper Balearic house
  7. Kraak & Smaak – Centro De Placer – I am loving Kraak & Smaak at the moment, this is dubby ska house with a Latin edge. Yeah, I know…
  8. Mighty Dub Katz – Magic Carpet Ride ’07 – An all-time classic, of course
  9. Warner Case & Jean Tonique – OK – Cheeky, naughty house music
  10. Bakai & Orah – Simply Put – Glamorous and inventive vocal house
  11. Promnite – India – Deep house that gives up its hooks with repeated listens
  12. Alkaline Georgi – Rumba Tumba (Tâches Remix) – Reminds me of daytime caseta parties in Spanish cities in festival weeks
  13. DJ Michael Flume – Agolele (Chus & Ceballos Remix) – Pure celebration music
  14. Dam Swindle – Spice Run – Again, it’s all palm tress and sunshine and daytime partying
  15. Lawrence Hart – Surrender Yourself – Back to deep, tougher emotional house music
  16. Gorgon City & DRAMA – You’ve Done Enough (John Summit Remix) – An instant classic vocal, and this is the remix that does it for me. (Note: Not on YouTube replay.)
