Balcony Beats #24 – 24 January 2021

Back at home in Gibraltar, back under lockdown, back on the balcony… new year, same shit.

Back at home in Gibraltar, back under lockdown, back on the balcony… new year, same shit! This mix gets pretty dark and moody in places but has its uplifting moments and a nice mix of breakbeats and house, too. A couple of nice vocals in here, I’m liking the new Chicane tune…

Track listing

  1. Sasha & Frankie Wah – Mark One – Melancholy, powerful, awesome – loving the breakbeat output from Sasha and Frankie Wah at the moment
  2. Nuage & Omfeel – Our Language – Lovely, deep electronica, if I could put the mood of this winter into a single track, this would be it
  3. Cywil – U Get Dawn – Cheeky lo-fi house number with an instantly recognisable sample…
  4. Cedarwood State Trax – You’re My Last Breath – A tantalising taste of summer, right here in the depths of winter
  5. 2XM – Spaces Between – More beach Balearica, 2XM has featured a few times recently on Balcony Beats with this brand of laid-back house
  6. WEISS – Where Do We Go? (A-Trak Remix) – Alan Parsons Project sampled in this filtered house stormer
  7. Joris Voorn feat Haelos – Messiah – Old school banging piano house
  8. Fiin – Days Like This – Deep and moody vocal track

  10. Chicane – Make You Stay (Back Pedal Brakes Remix) – Channelling Jon & Vangelis, and none the worse for it
  11. JP Sunshine – I Want To Stay – Proper old school breakbeat piano house, reminds me of Congress’s “40 Miles”.
  12. BAILE – Dazed – Understated and beautiful winter electronica
  13. ATTLAS – Polar Concept – Getting to the business end of the mix now, driving dark house
  14. Tour-Maubourg – L’Invitation Au Voyage – This is the kind of music I used to love playing towards the end of an all-nighter, when I was into hour 4 or 5 of an 8-hour set
  15. Brendon Moeller – Urban Lighting – Proper stripped-back yet powerful house music
  16. Gorgon City – Trapdoor (PAX Remix) – Bringing the sound bang up to date with a fitting end to the mix
